A Bit About Water Features

Water features are a great benefit to your front and your back yard. The smallest to the largest water feature will equal the same benefits together. The sound of water, such as waves crashing or a gentle stream flowing, can have a calming effect on humans due to its repetitive nature and white noise properties. This type of steady and soothing sound has been found to reduce stress and anxiety levels by creating a sense of tranquility and promoting relaxation. Additionally, the sound of water is often associated with nature and natural environments, which has been shown to have positive effects on mental health and overall well-being.

Lights around a small water feature can enhance its visual appeal and create a calming ambiance, especially at night. The reflection of light on the water can create a shimmering effect that adds a touch of magic and tranquility to the space. Additionally, the combination of light and water can evoke a sense of serenity, making the area a peaceful spot for relaxation or contemplation. The changing colors or patterns of the lights can also add an element of visual interest and enhance the overall aesthetic of the water feature, creating a soothing and inviting atmosphere for both daytime and nighttime enjoyment.

Combining fire elements with water features can create a striking and captivating contrast that adds drama and visual interest to an outdoor space. The flickering flames of a fire with water can create a dynamic and visually stimulating environment. The combination of fire and water can evoke a sense of balance and harmony, as well as create a cozy and inviting atmosphere for gathering and relaxation. Additionally, the warmth of the fire can complement the cool and soothing effect of the water, making it a unique and memorable feature in any outdoor setting.

Maintenance

Water feature

Make sure water levels are sufficient

To ensure that your pump doesn't burn up causing a need for replacement, always check and make sure water levels are sufficient. Water can escape the catch basin in many ways such as evaporation, wind blowing water out or or splashing when the feature is flowing

Algae prevention

Algae can occur on your water feature naturally. In order to prevent this you can get a automatic cleaner distributing kit from aquascapes. This will be an easy set up and plug in and will automatically feed the chemicals into the catch basin as needed.

Cleaning the pump

Making sure the pump remains clean is crucial to the water feature. Ensuring the pump doesn't get clogged and functions properly. Making sure the pump is clean every 2-3 weeks will ensure your water feature stays running properly

Winterizing

Winterizing your water feature consists of draining the water from the catch basin, removing the pump from the catch basin, and either moving the feature inside if possible or covering it to protect it from the harsh winter elements. This will prevent damage to the catch basin and feature to make sure it is ready to function properly come spring time!
